The Macro Equation
Nutrition isn’t about restriction; itโs about management. To change your composition, you must understand the data behind your intake.

Protein (The Anchor)
Essential for muscle preservation and satiety. Aim for 0.7gโ1g per pound of goal body weight.
Carbohydrates (The Fuel)
Your primary energy source. Focus on complex, high-fiber sources to maintain steady glucose levels.
Fats (The Support)
Vital for hormonal health and nutrient absorption.
Understanding TDEE
Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the number of calories you burn in a day.

Deficit:
To lose weight, consume 10-20% below your TDEE.

Maintenance:
Consuming at your TDEE to fuel performance without weight change.

Surplus:
Consuming above TDEE to support muscle growth.
The Power of Consistency
The data is clear: consistency drives results. Tracking 5+ days a week nearly doubles the success rate compared to sporadic logging. Track Coach is designed to remove the friction of this daily habit so the data works for you, not against you.

How We Compute Nutrition Estimates
At MackCrows Track Coach, we believe tracking your food should be as easy as a quick note or snapping a pic. Here is how our AI coach computes nutrition estimates.
Where do the numbers come from?
When you log a meal, our system uses a cascading approach to find the most accurate data possible in real-time:
1. Verified Databases
For whole foods (like an apple or chicken breast), we connect directly to the USDA FoodData Central database.
2. Live Label Searching
If you log a specific brand or upload a barcode, our AI actively searches the web to find the most current, verified nutrition facts for that exact product.
3. Your Custom Recipes
If you log a meal you’ve cooked before, the Coach remembers your saved recipes and uses your exact, custom macros.
4. AI Estimation
When you upload a photo of a complex meal, our visual AI estimates the portion size and calculates macros based on extensive training data.
The Computed Nutrition Estimate (Why we fill in the blanks)
You might notice that our micronutrient estimates (like Potassium, Calcium, or Iron) are sometimes more detailed than the nutrition label on the back of your food. This is on purpose!
Why: FDA regulations allow food companies to leave micronutrients off their labels if they aren’t making a specific health claim. If we just copied the label, your log would show “0g of Potassium” for foods that naturally contain it.
Our Approach: A “0” ruins your tracking. When our AI detects that a label has omitted a vital nutrient, it looks at the core ingredients and provides a Computed Nutrition Estimate of the missing value. This ensures your daily totals reflect a more realistic estimation of your nutritional profile.
The 4/4/9 Rule & Biological Variance
Our system uses a “Biological Math Law” to verify the accuracy of nutrition data. The standard formula for calories is: (Protein x 4) + (Carbohydrates x 4) + (Fat x 9)
๐๏ธ Why we subtract Fiber
Dietary fiber is a type of carbohydrate that your body cannot fully digest. Because insoluble fiber provides 0 calories per gram, we subtract it from the total carbohydrate count before running our math check. This ensures a much more accurate “Sanity Check” for whole foods like beans and vegetables.
๐ก๏ธ Clinical Data Tolerance
Verified clinical data (like USDA entries) often includes non-typical ingredients such as Sugar Alcohols, which have fewer calories than regular sugar. Our system applies a wider scientific tolerance window to verified sources to avoid “False Positives” on items known to have these complex variances.
Transparency & Accuracy
While our AI is incredibly smart, it cannot see hidden ingredients (like butter or cooking oils used at a restaurant, or how many sprinkles of salt were added). All AI-generated nutritional values are estimates and the AI can make mistakes. Always review the output for accuracy.
We stage nutritional estimates for your review before it is saved, giving you the final say.
You can always tap into a log to edit the numbers, change the serving size, or correct the AI. If you ever question the validity of the estimates, you can ask the AI to review again or provide additional information about how the estimate was determined. We encourage users to periodically ask such questions, we have found users also tend to learn new interesting facts this way.
